The annual “Best of Willow Glen” season is underway, following closely on the heels of the Best of San Jose Silicon Valley season, which wrapped up last month in the Metro and The Wave.

The Willow Glen Times kicks off the annual love-fest with its October issue of “Best of 2005 Awards,” as determined by readers who voted over the past 14 months. Fourteen months? Did they forget to run a best of last year? If you voted in August 2004, were you just being psychic?

The Times is also delighted to annoint Hicklebees as the “Best Children’s Bookstore.” Sure, we all love it, and it is definitely the best. But is there another children’s bookstore? Willow Glen Books gets the nod as “Best Bookstore,” so you have to wonder which store was being protected when the childrens category was created. Or, which advertiser was being courted, which is probably the point of the whole “Best of” season anyway.

The Willow Glen Resident should be printing its “Best of Willow Glen” sometime this month. The Best of WG season will continue into November, when the monthly Times will run its “Best of Home Improvement” stories. Keeping with their timely news reporting, perhaps the December edition will review the Best of Halloween.
