I agree about the cinema/theatre idea, if I won the lottery(!) I would try to by it and convert the stale old theartre back into a cinema, I think that would be much better than ANOTHER Starbucks etc. Willow Glen has a great small down town, wouldn't it be fantasic if I could wal to the cimema!

I personally don't think another Starbuck's is necessary. I do however, like the idea of Beverages and More coming into Willow Glen. Lincoln Ave. NEEDS some fresh businesses to fill the vacant storefronts on Lincoln Ave. Big names might be a good draw for the neighborhood. What about GAP or Banana Republic? Also, I really miss The Glen! Sorry, but that is a really large and interesting space and it's sad to see it being used for BCivilized, which by the way, never seems busy! I didn't like when The Glen transformed the space to a nightclub either. We need a good, family style restaurant to take over that space again!

Isn't the "Seattle's Best" billboard on Lincoln at Malone kind of funny, too. Can you even buy Seattle's Best in Willow Glen since the Safeway converted?

[...] With a few high profile departures of businesses along Lincoln Avenue, it’s the prospect of two new businesses that has grabbed a lot of attention. The pending arrival of Starbucks in the Garden Theater spawned one of the more spirited comment threads ever on WGx, and the possibility of a new Beverages & More outlet a few steps north of that has also raised some questions among neighbors. It’s slated for the dark red portion of the building. [...]

The problem is the price they want now per SQ. FT. is over $3, so most independent businesses are afraid of taking that chance. At the same time the lanlord looks at Star Bucks as a long term cash COW!
I was trying to get that space for a art gallery showcasing
local Master Artist but the price scared me away.

I do not need the other coffee shops when I can get "cinnamon dolce latte" at Starbucks. It is the best way to get your daily dose of cinnamon!

The tile will be just fine. The other tile in WG is--What? Just brown & tan?

Many in WG were afraid to let Longs in. Looks OK and is convenient, as will be the new Starbucks.

How about we really shake things up and get a turn arrow directional light on Willow at Lincon?

I concur with all these comments. The lavendar tile is a travesty, particularly when it is possible to obtain the historic and exquiste Solon and Schemmel ("S & S") tile that adorns Victoria's Theatrical Supply and other storefronts on Lincoln. Stonelight Tile in downtown San Jose - www.stonelighttile.com - still manufactures these colorful arts and crafts tiles, which also embellish archways at SJSU, the Old Hoover School builing, Hearst Castle, and Julia Morgan buildings throughout the state.

S & S tile was also used in many of WG's and the Rose Garden's older homes, and is frequently used in the restoration of these homes.

[...] Cookie Curci provides this memory just in time … before the Garden Theater gets its long overdue remake. But is the tile on the front really going to be that bright lavender? Have you seen it? It’s unique. [...]

Small business are not only the lifeblood of the economy, they are a big part of what makes a community unique. I don't walk down Lincoln to find a Starbucks or a Blockbuster. If we all did, then maybe we should just plow it down and put a WalMart and a big parking lot there.

Places like Willow Glen Coffee Roasting and Puerto Azul are the unique businesses that I want to see.
