It only took six months, but crews rang in the new year by removing the old curbed corners and pouring concrete for the new ones last week.

Southern Lincoln Avenue will be tough to traverse this week, but the end result will be quite nice for strollers, walkers, and anyone on wheels! ... WGx.

More from Ken Yeager's District 6 Newsetter (June 28, 2006) ...

CURB RAMP IMPROVEMENTS IN DISTRICT 6

I am happy to report that the Department of Transportation will be installing 38 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps in District 6. Curb ramps provide our community with improved wheelchair access and more convenient walking routes.

The City's General Fund is providing one time funding that will install 30 ramps in the Lincoln Avenue area through a previously approved Lincoln Avenue pedestrian improvement project.

The remaining eight ramps were selected based on known routes used and requests by persons with disabilities; known locations in the safe walking routes to school plan; known routes to senior and community centers and around parks; and requests from the community through Neighborhood Action Committees, Strong Neighborhoods Initiative meetings, and through my office.

Approved sites and number of planned ramps at each location:

<blockquote>
Monroe Street at Woodland Avenue (2)
Monroe Street at Hedding Street (2)
Monroe Street at Homewood Drive (2)
Creek Drive at Carmel Drive (2)
Lincoln Avenue at Roy Avenue (4)
Lincoln at Franquette Avenue (2)
Lincoln at Lennon Way (2)
Lincoln at Bennett Way (2)
Lincoln at Roycott Way (2)
Lincoln at Hazelwood Avenue (2)
Lincoln at Norval Way (2)
Lincoln at Michigan Avenue (2)
Lincoln at Fairview Lane (4)
Lincoln at Coe Avenue (1)
Lincoln at Pasone Avenue (3)
Lincoln at Laurie Avenue (4)
