Sad, but true. WGx reader Chris first commented earlier today, and the Press Release is posted at the Willow Glen Business & Professional Association’s news archive:
SAN JOSE - (September 7, 2006) It was announced today that the Willow Glen Business and Professional Association (WGBPA) with deep regret has decided to cancel the Founder’s Day run and the associated afternoon silent auction and wine and food events scheduled for Sunday, September 24, 2006.

This really disappointing. As a resident and registered runner for the race, I was really looking forward to this event. I wish there had been more notice of the difficulties they were having prior to the cancellation. How can I get my race entry fee back? What does this mean for the triple race event combined with the SJ 1/2 marathon and the SV marathon?
I was also signed up for the run. It’s dissapointing that the event could not get enough sponsors or participants. It speaks volumes about the lack of community participation. I don’t blame the WGPBA, perhaps they need to start planning the event sooner to ensure there are enough sponsors and community interest.
BTW, I received an email from WGPBA stating a refund would be issued via mail.
From the Willow Glen Resident’s coverage on September 13, we learn that the financial loss to the WGBPA could have exceeded $23,000: “Founders Day canceled due to a lack of funds, runners and sponsors“
