Independent Neighborhood News & Talking Points
4 Dec
Of course, it’s time to put up your Christmas Holiday lights. Lots of informal competition fuels some spectatular displays every year, and WGx will once again be highlighting anything worthy of note.
While WGx has nothing to award but a virtual “Willow Glen Mosts” certificate, you are invited to send a picture or nominate your favorite displays. In the meantime, you can see if the “2005 Holiday Lights” houses have come-through for 2006.
If you are seeking formal competition — and live in North Willow Glen — you can try your luck in the NWGNA Holiday Lighting Contest. The association’s website (and weblog!) asks official entrants to email their aspirations to the judges. Good Luck!

Decorations Stolen … Just wanted to send out a note to all of you that plan on putting up holiday decorations or already have, there is a Humbug in Willow Glen! Our 10 foot inflatable frosty was stolen right out of our yard a few days ago. My 3 year old son is very disappointed. We are unsure if we should replace him with a new Frosty out of fear that this one may also be lifted. We are on the South end of Willow Glen on Westgate. Be on the watch out!
Well this morning at about 6:00 am my decorations were stolen out from in front of my neighbors yard. I have 2neighbor ladies in there 80s and they have given me permision to decorate their yards. To our surprise when we awoke this morning the mickey and minnie mouse and pooh, tiger and eyore were stolen. Our neighbors dog started to bark and he heard somthing out side. He went out to see what was going on and he saw 3 men in a SUV ford dark in color taking the decorations and fleeing in the SUV. Our street is very dark so he could not get there plates. We are the houses on Malone by cottle. Im not sure if I will be leaving my decorations up for the rest of the holidays or not.
Slightly different subject but:
Does anyone know if the lights will be on
at Tony Ornellas, house at 1195 Minnesota Ave. This year??
Your opportunity to see them may be over for this year, but the winners of the N-WGNA (affectionately known as the “n’hood”) contest was this house on Atlantic Avenue, the winner two years in a row.
The WG Resident published a picture in its January 10 2007 edition, but the picture is not available online (unless you download the full PDF version of the paper).
Some additional holiday pictures are also available on the association’s weblog, as is a list of the winners.
