And now someone else has noticed that the gloves have come off. The Fly column in this week's Silicon Valley Metro noted that Steve Tedesco used most of his official ballot statement to knock Pierluigi Oliverio. The Fly also tried -- unsuccessfully -- to get Tedesco to comment on his recent anti-Oliverio flyers and comments.

What does Tedesco have to say about the tone of his campaign? Fly has a sneaking suspicion he may be lying low—the phone at his campaign headquarters went unanswered despite numerous attempts and he did not respond to email seeking comment for this story.

And for the record, Steve Tedesco contacted WGx in early January to ask for an official endorsement. Although WGx was amenable to a meeting, Tedesco never called back to set it up. ... WGx.

So the Merc's Internal Affairs section this weekend updates the story from last week, noting that Oliverio's brochures now include a picture of Ken Yeager, who has offered his endorsement:

Meanwhile, Oliverio's opponent for the District 6 seat, non-profit executive Steve Tedesco, seems to have hit on a novel way of deflating the importance of Yeager's endorsing his rival. At a different candidate forum Thursday, Tedesco repeated his pledge that, if elected, he won't use the council seat as a stepping stone to higher office. (Oliverio, for the record, promises the same.)

``The reason we're here today,'' Tedesco said, ``is that the last candidate didn't fulfill his commitment and finish the job.'' Yeager had two years left on his council term when he jumped for the board of supes last year.

IA hears Tedesco had previously lobbied for Yeager's endorsement. But hey, if you can't join 'em, beat 'em. Or at least, throw dirt on their shoes.
