This year, I’ve adopted a rule: Accept no substitutions, buy only from a bona fide Girl Scout.

Just what do girls get out of cookie sales, besides cute little pewter incentive bunnies, I’d like to know?

Helps build confidence

“We’re trying to build courage, confidence and character,” said Bernie Hoye of the Santa Clara County Girl Scout Council. “We’re building economic and business literacy.”

Hoye, spokeswoman and fund developer for the council, is nothing if not on message, but when all goes as it should, she’s absolutely right.
