SJUSD has its ‘Code Red’ drill on campuses to deter any school danger

As the recent events at Virginia Polytechnic Institute resonate with parents across the country, Willow Glen parents can sleep a little better knowing their children’s schools haven’t ignored emergency and safety preparedness.

Along with the traditional earthquake and fire drills, San Jose Unified School District practices its “Code Red” drill once a year, a mock lockdown of the entire school in conjunction with the San Jose Police Department.

“We want our kids to be safe,” says district spokeswoman Karen Fuqua. “We hope and pray that something like this will never happen, but be prepared in case it does.” …
