   Here is announcement I have distributed regarding the new principal at WGMS.

   To Interested Willow Glen families and friends:

   I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Erin Green as the new principal at Willow Glen Middle School. Currently serving as principal at Trace Elementary, she has established herself as a community builder and has gained the respect of parents, teachers and students alike.

   Ms. Green has several years experience as an elementary school principal. Most recently she successfully combined two school communities on one campus , when Cory Elem was closed. Trace Elem. is the elementary school in the performing arts strand along with Hoover and Lincoln.

   The following is a portion of letter I received yesterday from a Trace parent.

   “I have four Trace students. I simply want to convey my feelings with regard to the current status of Trace.

   The solitary reason my children have remained in the San Jose Unified School District is Erin Green. Upon the closure of Cory, I seriously looked into private school; however, when I heard Erin was to become Trace’s principal, I decided to try it for one year.

   Our first year at Trace was unsettling. The upper grade children were daunting and unruly. There seemed to be a general air of tension and anxiety, but towards the mid to latter part of the year the general unrest seemed to have dissipated.

   The 2006-07 school year has change dramatically. Simply take a drive past Trace, and you will see children actively engaged in structured games. There are now after-school leadership, sports and academic programs aimed at increasing abilities and self esteem.

   While students and programs have certainly changed for the better, there is still much to be done. We have finally reached a point of stability from which we can all look forward with eyes of hope. While we still feel as if we can easily teeter in one direction or another, our comfort level and assurance come from Erin Green’s amazing leadership skills. Without her, I am certain, I would not have made the transition to Trace. She deserves accolades from parents, students, staff and the district. Trace WILL become San Jose’s best with Erin Green at the helm.”

   In an email sent to parents earlier this morning, Sharon Roddick announced that Cindy Carter has been named the new principal at Booksin Elementary School:

   The new Booksin Principal has been announced to the staff and will be announced to the District momentarily.

   I am happy to announce that Cindy Carter is the appointed Principal. She has been with SJUSD as a teacher and an Assistant Principal at both elementary and middle school levels. The last two years Cindy has been an elementary Principal in Cupertino. She is looking forward to returning to our school district and to Booksin School!

   The Assistant Principal will be Cydney Eshlman. She has been an Assistant Principal for several years at Castillero Middle School, and also has a counseling background. …

   Canoas Elementary School’s new principal, An Nguyen, is moving quickly, the heels of his shoes clicking against the sidewalk as he walks from classroom to classroom, familiarizing himself with a school his predecessor loved and shaped.

   “I have big shoes to fill and high expectations coming in,” says Nguyen, 39.
