Independent Neighborhood News & Talking Points
17 May
It’s that time of year … May … when your calendar gets filled with lots of end-of-the-school-year activities, like graduation celebrations, sports team banquets, classroom potlucks, and — especially this year — retirement parties.
There are so many SJUSD administrators coming and going this summer that you’ll need a study guide to keep it all straight. At least 12 administrative retirements across the San Jose Unified School District will result in a remarkable turnover of principals in Willow Glen.
The following principals have announced their retirements:
Margie Payne Graves, Principal of Schallenberger
John Tavella, Principal of WGMS
Elaine Farace, Principal of WGHS
Carol Garcia, Canoas Elementary
In addition to retiring principals themselves, district office retirements create opportunities for principals to advance in their career by moving up the ladder. Sharon Roddick, Principal of Booksin, has been promoted to Director of Elementary Education.
The new principal at WGMS will be Erin Green, who is moving from the Rosegarden’s Trace Elementary (as announced by Pam Foley below).
While new principals for the other schools have not yet been announced, parents from Booksin have been invited to meet with outgoing Elementary Director Mike Carr tomorrow morning, to provide input for the initial stages of hiring their new principal.
Anyone polishing their resume?

Here is announcement I have distributed regarding the new principal at WGMS.
To Interested Willow Glen families and friends:
I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Erin Green as the new principal at Willow Glen Middle School. Currently serving as principal at Trace Elementary, she has established herself as a community builder and has gained the respect of parents, teachers and students alike.
Ms. Green has several years experience as an elementary school principal. Most recently she successfully combined two school communities on one campus , when Cory Elem was closed. Trace Elem. is the elementary school in the performing arts strand along with Hoover and Lincoln.
The following is a portion of letter I received yesterday from a Trace parent.
Please join me in welcoming Ms. Green with open arms and look forward to partnering with her to expand the academic renaissance of Willow Glen Middle School.
Sincerely,
Pam Foley
