Independent Neighborhood News & Talking Points

It’s summer, so let’s talk about swimming!
While there are no real updates on the long-term rebuilding and repair for swimming poolsin community centers across San Jose, the City’s parks commission has approved the Aquatics Master Plan:
The plan provides $7.4 million to repair and reopen Ryland, Alviso and Biebrach pools by summer 2008 and to build a new pool and water spray feature in the Mayfair neighborhood. That project, along with a new community center, is expected to be completed in 2009. Final approval from the San Jose City Council is expected in August.
In the meantime, residents can swim at six school pools leased by the city through Aug. 11 - Silver Creek, Willow Glen, Piedmont Hills, Santa Teresa and Del Mar high schools and Peter Burnett Middle School. The city also operates the Fair Swim Center and Camden Community Center pool.
So, let’s get down to details: You want to swim right here in WG, right?
The pool at WGMS is open! … or if your prefer, the pool at WGHS is open! Of course, they are the same pool:

Like actual pools in San Jose, online information about the local aquatics programs can be hard to find. You won’t find these temporarily summer programs listed on the official City Wide Aquatics webpage, but you can learn more about the Master Plan there.
You also won’t find swimming pool information on the Willow Glen section (PDF) of the City Wide Activity Guide (page 169). Instead, check out Page 55 … WG is listed under the under Aquatics Programs (also PDF).
In addition to the list of recreational swim times at all City-leased pools, you;ll also find an extensive list of swim lessons, divided into two-week sessions that run all summer.

One Response for "Swimming This Summer in WG"
[...] The WGHS Boys Water Polo Team is selling a personally-designed “Life Is Good in Willow Glen” retro-style ornament as a fund raiser for the school’s Aquatics Programs (remember that pool you swam in last summer?). [...]
