Nothing signals success like a follow-up story in the WG Resident ...

Booksin Elementary students showed their sweet side by donating more than 1,000 pounds of Halloween candy to U.S. troops overseas.

"Candy was coming in by the gobs," says second-grade teacher Pam Blodgett.

The school held a two-week candy drive, collecting Halloween treats children and adults gave up for the troops to enjoy through Operation Care & Comfort, an organization that Willow Glen resident Julie DeMaria started. ...

"It was amazing," says fifth-grade teacher Ann Braunstein.

The article includes some great quotes from the adults behind the project, and some additional history of Operation Care & Comfort

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Booksin's first "Trick-or-Treat for the Troops" project. Students collected more than 1000 pounds of candy, which will be rolled into care packages to be sent to service members stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other conflict regions.

Operation Care and Comfort will be putting care packages together on Nov 18 and Dec 2 at the American Legion Hall (1504 Minnesota Avenue), from 10:00 am until finished both days.

Mrs. Braunstein reports that her class had a HUGE response to their call for Candy for the Troops! Last week they collected 800 pounds of candy and $115 towards postage for Operation Care and Comfort!!!

If you still have candy you would like to donate, Mrs. Braunstein says she will be happy to make another delivery this Friday.

Drop candy and donations off at Room 28 (next to the library).
