Independent Neighborhood News & Talking Points

Seasonally famous for the multi-yard Santa’s Sleigh & Reindeer display, the neighborhood near Willow Street Park is in danger of becoming famous for unsafe drivers and pedestrian accidents, as well.
Two children were hit in a crosswalk Wednesday afternoon, while pushing their bikes across the street, as reported by The WG Resident’s Mayra Flores De Marcotte on the SJ Mercury’s website:
A driver struck a child pushing her bicycle in the crosswalk at Willow Street and Glen Brook Avenue this afternoon after the driver failed to stop for the crosswalk, police said.
The child was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. San Jose Police Sgt. Robert St. Amour said the girl was walking in a group with two other children and an adult.
Ongoing discussions about pedestrian safety and unsafe drivers along Willow Street resulted in the installation of a different cross walk two blocks west at Willow & Glen Eyrie in mid-November. Three corners are receiving handicap-accessible ramps, and a yellow caution light will be installed to warn east-bound vehicles that a cross walk is coming.
