  • You Look Scandalous!

The salon-to-restaurant ratio on Lincoln Avenue may not compare to Santana Row, but that’s not going to stop Scandalous from getting all stylish later this month.

    Ultimate Silicon Valley Photo Shoot

Silicon Valley’s top stylists and photographers join forces for delivering high quality personal and professional head shots.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) March 6, 2008 — Four of San Jose’s top stylists and photographers have teamed up to present the Ultimate Silicon Valley Photo Shoot on March 30, 31 and April 3 at the Scandalous Salon, 1264 Lincoln Avenue, in the city’s Willow Glen neighborhood.

“This is an extremely unique opportunity for anyone in need of a high quality/high impact color or black and white head shot for professional or personal purposes,” said Joseph Rosenfeld, Image Mentor. …

“Whether it’s for a company web site, a dating web site, or, for a corporate business card, the point of having a photograph taken is to look your absolute best and to make the best possible impression and that’s what this service offers,” adds Rosenfeld. “Most portrait photography sessions never include an image consultant, makeup artist and hairstylist so this is a tremendous value” he added.

By the way, the photo shoot will set you back $325 … although apparently it usually costs something like $800 regularly.

In its March 2008 edition**, the Silicon Valley version of media titan Bay Area Parent plugs WG favorite Gunther’s Restaurant as one of its preferred destinations for family-friendly “comfort food” restaurants, as reviewed by Cheryl Sternman Rule. Skip to Page 100:

It may be my personal bias, but a comfort-food restaurant worth its salt should offer unimpeachable rice pudding.

By that admittedly subjective criteria, Gunther’s is hands-down my new favorite, kid-friendly eatery. The rice pudding arrived warm with a mountain of whipped cream – the rice soft, the raisins plump, and the eggy custard base sweet and soothing. The four kids at my table had to fight me for the last spoonful.

The menu stretches far and wide, covering home-style classics anyone with an Italian, Jewish or German grandmother would recognize instantly.

Despite the restaurant’s German heritage, Bay Area Parent even gives Gunther’s a plug for St. Patrick’s Day:

Portions are enormous and service is extremely friendly. Plus, since you order at the counter, you and your children can see most of the food on display before making your selections. The kids at my table enjoyed a huge portion of cheese lasagna, a messy but wonderful Reuben sandwich and a giant plate of corned beef and cabbage. With St. Patrick’s Day this month, why take the kids to a rowdy Irish pub when you can get your corned-beef fix at Gunther’s?

You can also find more thorough reviews at Gunther’s Yelp page.

** Bay Area Parent usually requires a login with email address to read the current edition, which is then only available in Flash format. Gotta read those ads … ;-)

    Oliverio: Four More Years

The news passed rather quietly last weekend, but voters in San Jose’s District 6 won’t have much to do on June 3 …. incumbent Pierluigi Oliverio is the only candidate for City Council.

The filing deadline for candidates was last week, and Oliverio is unopposed. Other city districts will have some interesting races, but not here.

Oliverio has had a fairly uneventful term replacing the departed Ken Yeager, and has been just as visible in the community as his predecessor. The WG Times recently published a review of his first year, and he continues to engage with citizens across SJ with his weekly SanJoseInside column.

WG voters who live east of Meridian Avenue will still get to vote on the Santa Clara County Supervisor’s race to replace Blanca Alvarado, but George Shirakawa Jr seems to be the only candidate with a realistic shot.

At least we’ll still have some online polls to complete;-)

    eWaste Recycling at Galarza

Galarza Elementary School (aka Hammer Montessori) hosts a free e-waste collection event this Saturday, March 15, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The school is located on the corner of Bird Avenue & Pine Avenue in Willow Glen.

Collection is coordinated by ASL Recycling, based in San Jose. Bring everything from computer “mice,” phones (all), radios, shredders, computers, keyboards, TVs, cables/cords, PC boards, microwave ovens, etc., etc. (If you’re not sure, bring it or check their online list).

Hey … Why not bring your ewaste recyclables to Galarza while you’re taking in Lincoln Glen Little League’s Opening Day across the street at River Glen Park!

    Little League Opening Days

Saturday, March 15rain permitting … remember 2006? — is Opening Day for many Little League Baseball Teams around the area, including Lincoln Glen Little League.

Willow Glen Little League held its Opening Day last weekend, without rain.

Among other festivities hosted at River Glen Park will be a “Silent Auction” benefiting Little League. Ceremonies begin at 8:30 am, and the league’s “snack shack” will feature Mojo Burgers from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

They’ve also published a full list of Auction Items on their website. The highlights include golf packages, autographed memorabilia, food vouchers, sports equipment, and more.

    Now Open: Domus Willow Glen

Aside from the painted-over mural, and the recently covered “Cooking Etc.” sign, it wasn’t very obvious when Domus would be opening along Lincoln Avenue in Downtown Willow Glen. To Domus website doesn’t have its own WG page either … but don’t worry … Domus’ Willow Glen location is now open for business, on the corner of Lincoln & Minnesota.
