With significant debate brewing on the WGNA eList, residents are certainly eager to learn more about the layout and collection of the new library. ...WGx

-----Original Message-----

The following message was approved by Jane Light, San Jose's Head Librarian:

The new Willow Glen Branch Library will have the capacity to hold 75,000 items. The San Jose Public Library has set aside $1 million to order the new items. Library staff are currently selecting and ordering the new collection, and there will be on the shelves (or on order) at least 50,000 fresh and new items, plus a few thousand from storage, on Grand Opening Day. In several years it is anticipated that the collection will grow to capacity. Donors to Willow Glen Branch may specify that they would like their contributions to go to collections, which will further enlarge the collection. In addition, most of the whole San Jose Public Library collection of over 2 million items can be easily requested and sent to Willow Glen.

The new branch is much larger and includes more seating and study tables and carrels. In addition, the new branch features spaces not found in the previous library, including a community room, a group study and a quiet study room, a Teen Room, Tech Center, reading room with fireplace, and Internet Café. The Children’s area will be much larger and focused on the towering oak tree which was preserved in the design.
