Officials from local government and business groups have appointed Michael Mulcahy and Susan Hammer co-chairs of the newly created “A’s to San Jose Study Group.”
Mulcahy, of course, is a Willow Glen resident and famous downtown landlord of the Garden Theater and surrounding buildings. He’s also a former candidate for mayor. Hammer, of course, is an actual former mayor.
In light of the failed proposal by the Oakland A’s to build a new ballpark in Fremont, former San Jose Mayor Susan Hammer and businessman Michael Mulcahy said Tuesday said they will co-chair a study group to bring the team to Santa Clara County.
They said the goal of their “A’s to San Jose Study Group” will be “to research the political feasibility of bringing Major League Baseball to San Jose.”
The group grew out of meetings over the past month involving an ad hoc group of community leaders and elected officials …
“Susan Hammer and Michael Mulcahy are both committed to the long-term success of San Jose,” Mayor Reed said in a statement. “Having these two community stalwarts leading the Study Group’s efforts is a homerun. I’m also glad to see other members of the community getting organized in support of baseball.”
The official press release is embedded in the comments below.
The locally-powered Baseball San Jose organization expects to remain in close contact with the study group and the major players.

The biggest challenge to baseball in San Jose is that the MLB mafia gave the San Francisco Giants exclusive rights to Santa Clara County in exchange for not moving out of SF years ago. That’s why the most recent plan was based in Fremont. It would take Congress threatening MLB’s anti-trust exemption to open up San Jose to the A’s.
