But Fresh & Easy is a really easy April Fool’s Day target.
The perpetually delayed store that may or may not ever be coming to the corner of Bird & Minnesota/Alma in Willow Glen is still not planning to open anytime soon. The chain now tacitly suggests that the Bird Avenue store probably won’t open in 2009, now identifying the site as a “Future Store” on its website map where it had previously said “Opening 2009.”
But back to Alpha Beta, seen here in this undated picture courtesy of Romley’s Flickr photos. The Alpha Beta grocery store opened in the 1950’s, was purchased by Lucky’s and then by Albertsons, before closing in 2006.
Given Fresh & Easy’s delays, maybe Alpha Beta could come back. You never know … Lucky’s has returned

I am a Willow Glen Resident and I am not so sure that anything can be done with this issue, but I felt the need to ask if anything can be done none the less.
I live on Willow Glen Way and am witnessing the direction the property owners of the shopping center on the corner of Bird and Minnesota are taking their new renovation. In one word it is hideous! I have not seen their proposed finished renovation but if it is anything like the Fresh and Easy store, which it looks to be headed that way, it is just awful. In particular, the latest thing I have noticed is the painting of the terra cotta roof tiles in lemon yellow and it seems they are doing a very cheap renovation to satisfy the Fresh and Easy store only. My husband was speaking with one of the shop owners and they had no clue as to what was going on, nor did they seem to like the update.
I know that when the Longs went into our downtown Willow Glen area, there were guidelines they had to follow according to the association. Are there requirements for other shopping areas in Willow Glen/City of San Jose that must be followed? Do residents in the area have to be notified? It seems that they are doing whatever, as cheap as they can. My husband and I are tired of the entire shopping center and disappointed that it has just been run into the ground and neglected. It seems that there have been so many shopping areas that have been cleaned up and completely overhauled or torn down and renovated very nicely but ours is just falling by the way side. Our kids attend Willow Glen Elementary, we have lived in the area for over 9 years now and many of our friends I have talked to say it is awful. Is there anything we can or should do about this?
I appreciate your thoughts and direction on this matter.
Sincerely,
Kathleen and David Almoslino

My parents have owned the Chinese restaurant in this shopping center for over 15 years now. I have recently graduated from college and began working full time in Mountain View, so I haven’t been around much to work/eat. I was shocked when I was driving down Bird Ave and saw the new paint job, it was an eye sore.
