The fine folks participating in the Willow Glen Relay for Life won’t be painting the town purple like last year, but that’s not stopping them from a day of celebration and awareness-raising. Oh, there will be purple, just no paint …
In recognition of the Relay For Life program, the City of San Jose will proclaim May 1 “Show Us Your HOPE” Day. In Willow Glen, community members will demonstrate their commitment to ending cancer by displaying all things purple — clothing, lapel ribbons, balloon arches, ribbons around trees, the word HOPE in their windows, etc.
Actually, they’ve already started. yesterday evening, team members and volunteers involved in Relay For Life of Willow Glen began tying purple ribbons around the trees lining Lincoln Avenue, between Minnesota and Willow. Merchants and others professionals on Lincoln are encouraged to show their hope by posting the word HOPE in their windows, displaying balloon arches, and wearing purple ribbons on their lapels, as are all WG residents.
In its ninth year, Relay For Life of Willow Glen will be held over 24 hours, starting at 10:00 am on May 16. Relay For Life of Willow Glen benefits the American Cancer Society in the local community. Funds raised at Relay For Life will enable the American Cancer Society to support local services and resources for cancer patients and their families.
