Two of our neighborhood organizations host City Council District 6 candidate debates next week, so see if you can’t attend at least one. The five hopefuls don’t maintain the same rigorous schedule that mayoral candidates do, so you have to meet them when you can …
The Shasta Hanchett Park Neighborhood Association (S/HPNA) will be holding its Candidates’ Forum on Monday evening, October 9, 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Historic Hoover Theatre, 1677 Park Ave, San Jose. The forum is open to the public and questions will be acceptable from the audience. Doors open at 6:30 PM … seating is limited, so arrive early.
The WGNA’s Candidates’ Forum is also this week, and includes the three candidates for the District 24 seat in the California State Assembly (vacated by Rebecca Cohn): Jim Beall (Democrat), Lawrence R. Hileman (Republican), and Lionel H. Silva (Libertarian).
The WGNA will host a Candidates’ Forum at its Fall Meeting on Wednesday, October 11, 6:30 pm at the Willow Glen Baptist Church (Minnesota and Hicks). This debate includes the remaining five candidates for District 6, and will follow a traditional format. These candidates for State Assembly will be given the questions in advance and will be allowed approximately 10 minutes for a short speech.

The SJ Mercury News reports this morning that Brad Imamura has dropped from the race, leaving only five candidates still vying to represent District 6 on the San Jose City Council.
In other District 6 election news, the WG Resident offered a two-part feature on the candidates in its last two editions of September:
Big shoes to fill, but six run for Yeager’s District 6 seat (Pierluigi Oliverio, Art Muarice, and Imamura)
Candidates vying for a seat in District 6 know neighborhoods (Clark Williams, Steve Tedesco, Jim Spence)
You can still read about Imamura, and you can still think about voting for him (he’s in your sample ballot that arrives this week), but he says he’s out of the race. (more…)

Hey? What happened? The election lawn sign virus exploded this week, with several new signs hitting lawns (and a few vacant lots) across Willow Glen.
In particular, the corners of Lincoln/Curtner and Meridian/Curci are suddenly covered with political blight. It was bad enough when Chuck Reed’s signs went up immediately after the Shell station closed, but now the corner has taken on new life. Steve Tedesco, Karen Sinunu, Cindy Chavez, and the fine folks at “No on Measure A” seem to have arrived as a group this week.
Is it too much to ask these sign proliferators to remove the obviously outdated signs right next to their brand new ones? The Fair has been over for two months. … Or is there actually some strange honor code among these thieves?

Oh, bother! This WGx post full of intrigue and anticipation was going to be the feature article today! But then the website server took a little vacation, and then Murphy’s Law stepped in. Then we got an email from Clark Williams, announcing Ken Yeager’s endorsement.
So for a few hours anyway, please pretend you didn’t know that and ponder the possibilities anyway ….
Who Will Yeager Endorse? … a “tardy” article from WGx …
